A very notable example of McDonald's internal applications before a comprehensive Design System was put into practice. This application was used by global McDonald's staff to report and keep track of incidents in all of 36,900 restaurants. It was not, obviously, in line with McDonald's brand guidelines and the way it functioned was really poor. It took an average of 14 minutes to report just one incident.
The same screen after applying a comprehensive Design System.
Using a comprehensive Design System and UX enhancements to minimize the need for direct user input we optimized the user's memory retrieval which ultimately led to better time on task metrics.
One incident report that previously took 14 minutes to complete was down to just 8. Multiply that by 1.6 million and just imagine what a time saver that is.
